Homework



Today you got your new  Words Their Way words.

By Friday you need to:



1. Write each word in a sentence in the comment section below, or use paper, email, or Google Doc.

2. Write a definition for the word (its meaning), and a sentence for each in your own words.

3. Check capitals, and make sure you have a period at the end.

4 Read you sentences aloud and check/edit/revise them.



Jeffer and Yuki:  Choose 10 of your words to do sentences  for. Talk together to agree on the 10 words you will do please. You just need to write a sentence using each word, no definitions.

  1. 1. Pear: A weird shaped delicious type of fruit.
    Today I ate a pear for breakfast.

    2. Rear: The back or behind something.
    One wolf is always the rear of the pack.

    3. Eight: A number that is eighth when you count.
    Today the boy was turning eight.

    4. Waist: The place right below your belly.
    The boy could only go in the ocean up to his waist.

    5. Pail: A sort of old word for bucket.
    I used a pail to collect water from the well.

  3. 6. Rain: A type of water that comes from clouds.
    There was still so much rain outside that we could not play outside.

    7. Pane: A type of frame, mostly on windows.
    Almost all windows have a pane on them.

    8. Pale: To not have a color.
    Her face was pale as a ghost.

    9. Waste: To not use something that's perfectly fine.
    He was a waste because he threw his granola bar in the trash.

    10. Pain: The feeling you get when you are hurt.
    I felt lots of pain when I sprained my ankle.

    He sees the red rose dying.

    Sweet: A type of a taste that no one hates.
    “The sweet aroma is tempting me to eat the marshmallows!” said the boy.

    Beet: A type of a vegetable which is red.
    The kid spit out the beet because he didn’t like the taste of it.

    Flee: Running away.
    “That coward will flee immediately after I scare him.” said the angry bully.

    Feet: Plural form for foot.
    One of the book I know is titled, “Little Two Feet.”

    Heal: To recuperate.
    He tried to heal himself but he failed because he wasn’t a doctor.

    Steal: To take away something from someone forcefully.
    He tried to steal my notebook but luckily, I spotted him right away when he put his hand in my bag.

    Seas: The ocean.
    Some people say there are seven seas and some say there are eight.

    Cheap: Antonym for expensive.
    All the women ran to the corner of the building because there was a 60% discount on jewelries.

    Need: Something that is necessary.
    We need water, food, and air to live

    Suite: Group of rooms.
    The suite was ruined by the kids who threw debris all over the room.

    Flea: Bugs that are usually in dogs’ fur.
    I can’t sleep because the fleas are jumping around my bed.


    Beat: To win
    Because my team was better than the other team we beat them.

    Creek: A small water way.
    I went to a small creek to swim with my friends.

    Scene: A part in a movie or any other television shows.
    All the actors were introduced in the first scene but Samuel Jackson was introduced in the forth scene.

    Heel: The back part of the foot for human beings.
    I hurt my heel playing soccer by slide tackling.

    Seize: To grab or to have ownership.
    The government of Russia tried to seize Korea.

    Deer: A type of an animal which has big horns to protect itself.
    The deer ran after its mother when it saw a hunter.

    Steel: A type of a metal.
    The miners found some steel ores yesterday.

    Creak: A sound made when someone opens or closes an old door.
    When I got in front of the door the door automatically opened with a “Creak.”

    Cheep: Synonym for chirp.
    The birds cheep in the morning with happiness everyday.

    Meat: Food that comes from animals.
    “You need to eat meat to play soccer!” said my mom.

    Seen: Past participle for see.
    “I’ve never seen an airplane that went this slow.” said John who came from the future.

    Meet: To see and talk to someone for the first time.
    I’m going to a concert to meet Michael Jackson!

    Knead: To make dough.
    I started a bakery but I wasn’t able to make any cookies because I didn’t know how to knead.

    Feat: An act that shows courage or skills.
    It was quite a feat to survive in an island with no food or tools for 3 days.

    Dear: A person who you love.
    My mom is very dear to me.

    I have a pane on my wall.
    Rain:Polluted water.

    I have a pail of clothes.

    Sentence- For the tuning in of our new U.O.I. unit we had to be in a pair of to finish writing what we see,think & wonder about 6 things.
    Way- Meaning- A path.
    Sentence- We should follow God's way.
    Rain- Meaning Water coming from the sky.
    Sentence- Rain is a part of the water cycle.
    Pear- Meaning- A fruit.
    Sentence- I don't like to eat pear.
    Brake- Meaning- Something that slows or stops action.
    Sentence- I had to use the brake to stop my bicycle.
    Waist- Meaning- The part of the human trunk between the bottom of the rib cage & the pelvis.
    Sentence- I wear a belt on my waist.
    Raise- Meaning- To move to a higher position.
    Sentence- I raised my AR goal in the second quarter.
    Ate- Meaning- Past tense of eat.
    Sentence- I ate a giant king pizza.
    Rein- Meaning- A long, narrow leather strap attached to a bridle & used by a rider to control a horse.
    Sentence- Cowboys used reins While riding horses.
    Sale- Meaning- The exchange of goods for an amount of money.
    Sentence- The soccer ball was on sale for KRW 5,000.
    Vane- Meaning- Broad blade attached to a rotation wheel pushed by wind or water.
    Sentence- There are many vanes in fields.
    Rays- Meaning- Beams of light.
    Sentence- The Ozone layer protects us from the harmful ultraviolet rays of the Sun.
    Pail- Meaning- A bucket.
    Sentence- We fill up the pail at the beach.
    Weight- Meaning- A measure of the heaviness of an object.
    Sentence- My weight is 35 kg.
    Eight- Meaning- The number after 7.
    Sentence- I have eight books.
    Vain- Meaning- Fruitless.
    Sentence- We made a vain attempt to cross the blocked road.
    Break- Meaning- Separate into pieces as a result of a blow.
    Sentence- She broke the T.V. while playing.
    Pare- Meaning- Trim something by its outer edges.
    Sentence- Girls love to pare their fingernails & shape them.
    Waste- Meaning- To spend carelessly
    Sentence- He doesn't like to waste money.
    Pane- Meaning- A single sheet of glass in a window or door.
    Sentence- He hit the window pane with his soccer ball.
    Pain- Meaning- An unpleasant physical sensation caused by illness or injury.
    Sentence- I felt pain when I fell down.
    Pale- Meaning- Dull in color or shade.
    Sentence- William's face turned pale when he saw a snake.
    Sail- Meaning- A piece of material extended on a mast to catch the wind & propel the boat.
    Sentence- The ship's sail shifts the direction of the ship from the big wind.
    Vein- Meaning- A blood vessel.
    Sentence- Veins carry de-oxygenated blood back to the heart.
